A multi-scale analysis framework of different methods used in establishing ecological networks
Due to limited size of the book, plenty of interesting and practically important problems were not even properly formulated. Here, we only mention some opportunities for further development of the method, in terms of both theory and application. The considered mechanical models are readily generalized in many ways to take the specific features of real-world heterogeneous materials into account.
Multiscale modeling
- The carbon matrix and carbon fiber are bonded together tightly by mechanical, chemical and hybrid principles according to the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process.
- It showed in our study that some metrics of built-up land are negatively related with water quality parameters, including ED, SHAPE_AM and FRAC_AM.
- Elementary ANMM-based processing is then suggested and compared with the corresponding usual MM approach.
- D,e, Visualization of the first two PCs obtained with a PCA of the sample embeddings learned from the reference data.
- ScPoli, like other methods for data integration that leverage CVAE, provides the user with a lower-dimensional single-cell integrated object and not a corrected count matrix.
- The angles were the largest at 45°, 135° and so on, so the material stiffness was the smallest.
- Massively parallel simulations predict the system dynamics by resolving all spatiotemporal scales, often at a cost that prevents experimentation, while their findings may not allow for generalization.
Indeed, the adaptive toggle LIP contrast performs a locally accurate image enhancement, taking into account the notion of homogeneity within spatial structures of the image. Consequently, only the transitions are sharpened while preserving the homogeneous regions. On the contrary, the usual toggle contrast enhances the image uniform. Thus, the spatial zones around transitions are rapidly damaged as soon as the filtering becomes too strong. Precipitation in forest urban areas can dilute water quality concentrations while in farmland area can wash the pollutants from the impervious surfaces into the receiving waters.

Taihu Lake and the rivers surrounding it support the local industrial, agricultural and domestic water demands. It has poor water quality with non-point pollution as the primary pollution source, which is from rural areas and sewage waste water12. Average temperature was 16–17 °C, pH was approximately 6.0–7.0, and annual average rainfall was 1,100 mm.
- The wear mechanism and analytical calculation laid a foundation for the wear life prediction of finger seals25,26.
- The DSMC simulations revealed that the leading edge angle, gas-surface interaction effects affected on the flow over the plate, however, the three-dimensional effects would be small near the symmetric line of the plate in this flow conditions.
- For the first time, a rigorous convergence proof of the multipole expansion solution is given.
- In this context, we have performed a generous review of different aspects of horizon heterogeneity that has been successfully elucidated through the synergy between wavelet theory and finance.

The radial stiffness distribution of each group finger beams in the circumference. True multi-scale microscopy generates high quality and reliable imaging across all instruments while also accurately aligning them into a complete representation of the sample. With Thermo Scientific automation and data analysis software, the entire multi-scale workflow becomes a guided and routine procedure that can be readily integrated into your process or quality control multi-scale analysis environment. Some of these techniques aim to homogenize the properties of the local scale; others attempt to capture nonlinear behavior via curve fitting and progressive damage approaches. Many of the most famous techniques, such as those evaluated in the World Wide Failure Exercises, are related to the analysis of unidirectional composites.
Multi-scale analysis begins with micro-scale observation with non-destructive spectroscopic techniques. X-ray microtomography (microCT) produces a complete, 3D rendering of the sample through serial X-ray scans. These scans, or 2D tomograms, are digitally combined to form the 3D structure. With Thermo Scientific Heliscan MicroCT, the series of circular scans is replaced by a single, continuous helical scan. This allows for faster scanning at a lower dose, increasing the accuracy and amount of information obtained.
Since the US Department of Energy (DOE) national labs started to reduce nuclear underground tests in the mid-1980s, with the last one in 1992, the idea of simulation-based design and analysis concepts were birthed. Multiscale modeling was a key in garnering more precise and accurate predictive tools. In essence, the number of large-scale systems level tests that were previously used to validate a design was reduced to nothing, thus warranting the increase in simulation results of the complex systems for design verification and validation purposes. A real example in the field of image segmentation is illustrated on an image of metallurgic grain boundaries (Figure 24). Several methods have been introduced (e.g., Chazallon & Pinoli, 1997) that usually require complex processes.
